WarGames!!! Writing that like William Regal yells it just doesn’t have the same effect.
WARGAMES!!!!! Not even close, but a valiant effort.
WWE heads to ESPN for the final time in 2025 with Survivor Series inside what will be a packed Petco Park in San Diego on Saturday night. Both WarGames matches lead the night, but John Cena will also wrestle his second to last match when he defends the WWE Men’s Intercontinental Championship against Dominik Mysterio.
A classic Cena reaction?
San Diego is Mysterio’s hometown, but with only a couple Cena appearances left, my guess is the crowd is 100% on Cena’s side. It would be fitting to get a true 50/50 “Let’s go Cena, Cena sucks” reaction for one final time, but WWE crowds have been eating up anything Cena since about Summerslam.
Cena doesn’t need to hold the IC title in his last match, so look for him to lose it here to Dom. If things in the Last Time Is Now tournament continue trending forward in a predictable way, Gunther will be Cena’s opponent in his last match and that itself is bigger than the IC title. The championship was a nice nod to Cena’s final Boston appearance, but it’ll hinder the epic tone they want for Cena’s final bow.
The story is Lee and Lynch
As for WarGames, both the men’s and women’s matches are loaded. On the women’s side, it’s all about AJ Lee and Becky Lynch. Yes, I think we’ll see Iyo Sky do something crazy off the top of the cage and Rhea Ripley destroy someone with a table, but the story will be Lynch and Lee.
That’s slowly becoming a big match for WWE and if they play cards right, it can be sizzling by the time WrestleMania rolls around. This WarGames match can help build it up. Expect to see a lot of Lee and Lynch interactions with Lee’s team winning to keep nudging Lynch closer and closer to the edge.
A night for Breakker
The men’s WarGames match should be a fantastic spectacle. Brock Lesnar, Roman Reigns, CM Punk, and Cody Rhodes all in the same match surrounded by cages and weapons will be can’t miss action. As long as this match doesn’t travel down the “can the babyfaces coexist” lane too much, it’ll work well because of that star power.
It’ll be the heels night. Lesnar doesn’t lose many matches and with Bron Breakker on his team, that’s a safe bet for a pick to click. Breakker could use the win as it not only keeps him menacing as an up and comer, but if he beats CM Punk he’ll be first in line for a title shot.
