I don’t know if you know this or not, but WWE has the tendency to oversell it’s hyped surprises. It’s hard to believe and say out loud, but after decades of the Big Show or Kane being revealed as a surprise entrant, opponent, or partner, fans kinda just roll their eyes when the company tries to promote a “major announcement.”
Remember the story of the boy who cried wolf? The moral of that fable is a liar will not be believed, even when they are telling the truth.
WWE has this dilemma on their hands this weekend at the Backlash PLE in Tampa. John Cena is the face of it.
The company who cried wolf
After being the host of WrestleMania 42 this year in Las Vegas, Cena will appear on the Backlash show and reportedly is set to “SHOCK the foundation of WWE for fans and Superstars.”
Shock the foundation? Yeah, WWE is screaming “wolf!” at the top if it’s lungs.
Since WrestleMania, the WWE has been promoting the launch of Club WWE, a special insider organization that provides perks, merchandise drops, and other special benefits, which can only be accessed by members — paid members.
Regardless of whatever the price is on Club WWE, it’s an important company initiative moving forward. Cena has been the face of the club hype and all indications point to this Backlash announcement having something to do with it.
As I said … “wolf!”
But.
Let’s have some fun. What if the Cena announcement did shock WWE? Well, this is what it would have to look like.
