Irony is the best.
12 years ago, CM Punk and Triple H were oil and vinegar in WWE. Montague’s and Capulet’s. Hatfield’s and McCoy’s. Chicago Bears fans and Green Bay Packers fans. Polar opposites.
In 2014 when CM Punk walked out of the company because of a multitude of serious quibbles including his health, Triple H straddled the line of WWE Superstar and the top level of WWE management. He was married to the bosses’ daughter, too. At that time, Triple H was a buttoned up corporate heir to the WWE throne.
Punk? A WWE Superstar and a popular one at that. A star that had scratched and clawed his way into a top position, but one that wasn’t always treated like it.
By all accounts Triple H resented Punk for getting over the way he did. He was a guy that told Punk during in-ring promos that he was a guy that believed too much in his own hype. On the flip side, Punk is on record saying that Triple H was an out of touch stooge. Punk resented Triple H for not doing business and putting him over when the time clearly arrived to do so.
The only thing CM Punk and Triple H had in common was the size of their gargantuan egos. Well, until now.
Let bygones be bygones
Now, it’s 2026. As Chief Content Officer and Head of WWE Creative, Triple H has to fill nearly six hours of television each week — sometimes over eight hours when it’s a special event or PLE week. As TKO Group squeezes every ounce of juice out of the WWE orange, Triple H is responsible for filling seats in arenas around the world. Content, content, content.
And there’s where the irony gloriously rears it’s head in. Triple H needs CM Punk. CM Punk helps Triple H check those insane boxes on a weekly basis. CM Punk is the greatest creative decision that Triple H has made since taking over the book from Vince McMahon in 2022.
