-If you were worried that CM Punk and Jey Uso wouldn’t get aggressive or edgy enough in building their WWE World Heavyweight Championship match this weekend at Saturday Night’s Main Event, don’t fret! Punk and Jey were awesome out there. Punk called out all of Jey’s weaknesses but did so in a babyface way. The way Punk addressed Jey allowed for sympathy on Jey’s side, but kept Punk likable and someone you could root for at the same time. The segment had the appropriate intensity to it.
Too predictable
-Well, I for one am SHOCKED that the WWE Men’s Intercontinental Championship number one contender match ended in a no-contest leading to a triple threat at Saturday Night’s Main Event. I mean, who could have seen that coming! This was awful. Just book a triple threat if that’s the way it needs to go. The silliness of a non-finish in a match everyone knows won’t have a clean finish is obnoxious.
-A cool Asuka “10-year anniversary” video package this week. Has to be a shot at Goldberg and the comments he made about her over the weekend, right? Not every talent celebrating this anniversary gets something like this and Asuka isn’t exactly a tip-top star. Triple H Ego — 1. Goldberg — 0.
Clocked
-Did anyone else notice Nikki Bella knock Roxanne Perez out with a slap during their match? Goodness, that was wild. Props to Perez for finishing the match, I guess? She probably shouldn’t have been allowed to. A nice little win for Perez in the end, but beating Bella means less and less with each passing week because of how her return has gone thus far.
-I’m still not sold on the idea of watching even more drama unfold with the OG Bloodline again. With that said, Jey and Jimmy were strong this week. They argued like real brothers, with both having a reasonable angle behind their frustration. Nobody ever works anything out in pro wrestling, but they did — like family should. Good stuff, but the long-term potential of reviving these stories again is still up in the air.
-Really cool finish to the Bron Breakker vs. LA Knight match. Breakker had to get the win and he did.
-Another week and another really good Sheamus television match — this time against JD McDonagh. Like Sheamus, McDonagh is someone that can be counted on to have really good matches against pretty much everyone these days. A bit surprised he got the win, even it was tainted with cheating. The bigger picture is a tag title rematch next week between Judgment Day and AJ Styles & Dragon Lee next week.
Again?
-Another Maxxine Dupri match against Becky Lynch? Call me crazy, but I just don’t need to see this again. It doesn’t serve either woman, either. Look, if Dupri beats Lynch and wins the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship, what are we doing? There isn’t a circumstance in which I would green light Lynch doing that job for Dupri. At the same time, beating Dupri again doesn’t help Lynch and hurts the Dupri credibility that WWE has been trying to build.
-A stellar main event this week between the teams of Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss and Bayley & Lyra Valkyria. The match had everything. Really good action, pace, and a hot crowd. The Charlotte Flair fire after her hot tag was one of the best ever for Flair. Don’t look now, but WWE has built a decent little women’s tag division.
