-Really cool vibe for NXT this week inside the 2300 Arena, formerly known as the ECW Arena. There was energy in there that the show captured well throughout the night and it wasn’t only for nostalgic ECW acts.
Down goes Lola
-Cool to see Dawn Marie back in a wrestling ring. She doesn’t appear too much, but deserves her flowers — especially in her old stomping grounds. The Lola Vice vs. Jaida Parker Hardcore Match was a solid opener. Both women worked hard and the feud had the juice to it where a hardcore bout made sense. The camera got a little too close to the “brick” that Parker used to win the match. It looked real fake. They’ve got to be careful with how they shoot gimmicked stuff like that. Overall, though, this worked. Parker getting the win elevates her a bit and continues to put Vice on the skids.
-Excellent match between Je’Von Evans and Wes Lee. Lee was a perfect compliment to Lee in terms of style and helped him stand out in a positive way. The RVD endorsement of Evans was fun. Do we get an RVD vs. Lee match? I doubt it, but the table is set if Shawn Michaels wants to book it on his show.
-Wellllll, the big Ava announcement wasn’t all that big. NXT Deadline is back and the Iron Survivor Challenge matches are back. I like those matches, but that’s a social media post. We did get a Rhyno appearance. The Gore on Robert Stone was fine and nostalgic. Crowd ate it up, but nothing much to this segment other than that.
Holland heat gets squashed
-In the big Williams/Bubba vs. Holland/Page match, Holland got the victory for his team over Williams. Holland vs. Williams for the NXT Championship is certainly on deck now. They still got to do the “get the tables” craziness, so mission accomplished. It landed, but not as well as it would have had the duo won the match. Heat on Holland was instantly extinguished because of the Dudley Boyz gimmicky stuff at the end.
-Tony D’Angelo vs. Nunzio was fine for what it was. Good little pop for Nunzio and fun nonsense-level stuff. I’m just glad D’Angelo didn’t have to sell too much in this.
-Nikkita Lyons looks to be getting pushed again. Third time is a charm? There is still something inauthentic about her as a character. It’s like every single movement and word is scripted. It’s fine if it is, but as a performer, you can’t have it look that way.
NXT women shine in big main event
-Awesome main event. The 10-woman tag was wild and featured crazy action throughout. This match did a very nice job of showcasing just how strong the women’s division in NXT really is. Stephanie Vaquer stood out most out of everyone involved.
