Going into WrestleMania this weekend, I wanted to take a look at each match and give you my take on how over it is, but more importantly the overall wrestling fanbase. The ratings will go as follows:
Absolute zero - AKA 0° Kelvin or the coldest known temperature.
Ice Cold - Pretty cold, unless you’re some inspiration bro doing a morning ice bath on IG.
Cold - Bring a jacket, by midday you might be able to shed a layer.
Luke Warm - Who was Luke anyway?
Hot - Don’t wear socks with you sandals.
Red Hot - Like good hot sauce and bad candy
Surface of the Sun - 5772 Kelvin, just to close the circle on the first line.
Rhea Ripley vs. Becky Lynch: Luke Warm
What can I say? They did a podcast run in that felt fake as the almost last moment to this build. I am writing this before their final meeting on Raw, but this is the definition of rolling out your helmet and playing ball.
Gunther vs. Sami Zayn: Hot
This might have reached Red Hot status two weeks ago, but the story has been more on Sami as an underdog than contrasting the greatness of Gunther’s run with his underdog status. If Sami wins it feels like a consolation prize from Montreal last year, like his tag title run. If he loses, where is he slotted for the rest of 2024?
Six Team Ladder Match: Ice Cold
There is really no build here. It’s basically Ladders+WrestleMania=Good. The stipulation that both Raw and Smackdown tag titles will be on the line is strange. So the team that “wins,” gets red or blue belts then the other 5 teams fight for the other color. I don’t love that gimmick, but I’m sure i’ll enjoy the match as it goes live.
