Say what you will about AEW, but delivering stellar shows when they ask their fans to shell out $50 for a PPV has been a signature positive since Tony Khan started the company in 2019.
Khan has regularly featured dream matches to buoy his marathon cards over the years, but the 2025 AEW WrestleDream event on Saturday night from St. Louis looks quite a bit different than a typical AEW show. The signature dream match like Bryan Danielson vs. Will Ospreay. Jon Moxley vs. Kenny Omega, or The Young Bucks vs. FTR is nowhere to be found.
Nope. And that’s totally ok. For AEW WrestleDream 2025, Khan is leaning on his regular and weekly cast of characters to fill a show that will strictly be defined by how good the matches are and how effective the booking is. There may be a surprise or two, but nobody is expecting anything groundbreaking that could serve as a crutch if things go south for some reason.
At AEW WrestleDream, it’s show up and show out for the wrestlers and like I said, they almost always do.
Jon Moxley vs. Darby Allin
The match of the night and true main event of the show is the “I Quit” Match between Jon Moxley and Darby Allin. The Moxley and Allin feud has been brewing for much of 2025 and both are going to have a clean white canvas to paint with blood on.
The intrigue behind this match is obviously the “I Quit” stipulation. Both Moxley and Allin have been involved in some of the most violent moments in AEW history — lighting people on fire and an exploding barbed wire death match to help trigger the memory. What more can they do and how much further can they go where an “I Quit” from either guy feels warranted and reasonable?
That’s the story here and fans will be watching with one hand covering an eye to see how it all plays out. I’ll take Darby Allin for the win. This is the blowoff match for the Moxley and Allin feud. The good guy goes over in the end and that’s Darby. Here’s to hoping they find a smart and believable avenue for a finish that doesn’t involve Moxley’s real-life wife, Renee Paquette.
The other marquee matches on AEW WrestleDream 2025 are the two world championship matches — Adam Page vs. Samoa Joe for the AEW Men’s World Championship and Kris Statlander vs. Toni Storm for the AEW Women’s World Championship. As mentioned, not dream matches by any stretch of the imagination, but two bouts that are ripe for strong action in the ring.
Adam Page vs. Samoa Joe
Page vs. Joe is the weaker of the two title matches. They are both incredibly likable to the AEW fanbase, so asking the audience to pick a favorite is going to ruin their ability for potential drama in the match. Plus, everybody knows Page is retaining his championship. Page wins, he proves himself to Joe, and Joe raises his hand as the show goes off the air. Boom. Simple. Effective, but lacks some intrigue because of how certain that outcome is.
Kris Statlander vs. Toni Storm
Statlander vs. Storm has burned a little hotter in the build than Page vs. Joe. Statlander as a fresh champion and Storm as one of the most over characters in the company, make the match shine brighter. Plus, this is the first-ever singles match between the two.
Like the men’s world championship match, though, the outcome of this match is fairly easy to decipher. Statlander retains. Throughout the build, Toni Storm has driven the point home to fans that she doesn’t know who she is without the AEW Women’s World Championship. That’s the story coming out of this. Think of the vignettes!
