AEW returns to PPV on Sunday night with it’s annual Revolution event. Like last year, the event emanates from inside the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. The show is available on PPV and HBO Max.
The collective Revolution 2026 card is filled with matches that have been built up effectively. It terms of consequence, it’s a one match show and that key match is the main event.
AEW World Championship in the spotlight
That’s how Tony Khan should want it and he’s spent a great deal of the year on making it happen. The top focus of the show since the calendar turned to 2026 has been the AEW Men’s World Championship. Khan has positioned his tip top guys near that belt and that’s the narrative which drove storylines for those stars. Now, not only does the world championship matter a lot, but Khan leveraged the meaning of the title to make things personal and emotional.
Why? Well, at Revolution, MJF will defend his AEW Men’s World Championship against Adam Page in a Texas Death Match. A big match on any PPV, but massive this time around because if Page loses he will never challenge for the world championship ever again.
A bit drastic if you ask me, but Page wanted the Texas Death stipulation on the match, so he did what he had to do. This type of stipulation has pros and cons. On the positive end, it certainly creates intrigue around the match itself and around the meta booking to get through it. It’s going to stir debate and interest.
As for the negative? It is too drastic. Page is never going to challenge for the top title again if he loses? On the surface there isn’t a smooth creative angle for a finish. Page can’t lose, because of course he IS going to challenge for the world title again. If Page wins, MJF has to lose the title, and it feels like his title reign is only getting started.
So, it’s complicated. My guess is AEW has a top secret and special plan that they will try to execute coming out of show. Time will tell if it will work or be interesting, but it’ll involve Page earning his shot again. To do that, MJF needs to retain and he will.
A strong women’s division presence
The AEW women’s division will be featured prominently on this show. Thekla will put her AEW Women’s World Championship on the line against Kris Statlander in a 2 out of 3 Falls Match and Toni Storm will face Marina Shafir. For that mach, nobody else will be allowed ringside.
Two strong matches for the show and it’s nice to see AEW feature a women’s feud that doesn’t surround the world title. Shafir and Storm have history and a rivalry going. They should have an opportune chance to not only beat the tar out of the other, but put a bow on their feud. I’m taking Storm. I mean, it’s Storm. She’s Tony Khan’s golden act.
As for the AEW Women’s World Championship? The plan may have started with getting the belt back around the waist of Kris Statlander. With the momentum that Thekla has generated for herself since becoming champion, you really can’t go that direction anymore. Thekla losing the belt at this point would stunt growth. She retains.
Don’t sleep on the best of the best
The other notable match on the card is an AEW Men’s World Tag Team Championship match between FTR and The Young Bucks. Five years ago, this match would have been considered a main event dream match and here in 2026, it’s just kinda there hanging out. Keep an eye on this one.
Both FTR and The Young Bucks are as cold as they’ve ever been in AEW, but they can work. Because the build was slow, I’m looking at these four guys to pull out all the stops to make sure fans remember this. A sneaky match of the night contender.
